Do Kwon’s Extradition to South Korea Postponed by Montenegrin Supreme Court
Summary
Montenegro's Supreme Court has halted the extradition of Terra founder Do Kwon to South Korea. Kwon has been in custody in Montenegro since March 2023 for using fake Costa Rican documents. Both South Korea and the United States want to try Kwon for criminal charges, including fraud, related to the $40 billion collapse of the Terra ecosystem in May 2022. The Supreme State Prosecutor argued that the decision on where to extradite Kwon can only be made by the country's justice minister. The Supreme Court has stated that Kwon's extradition will be halted until a decision is made. Terraform Labs, a company founded by Kwon, is set to face charges brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission next week.
