El Salvador receives $138 million from IMF after Bitcoin waivers granted
The IMF approved an immediate disbursement of about $138 million to El Salvador after completing two reviews of its $1.4 billion financing program. It waived missed performance criteria, including one related to Bitcoin, citing corrective measures and renewed commitments. The IMF said El Salvador had advanced financial, fiscal-transparency and anti-money-laundering reforms, and transferred majority ownership and control of the Chivo wallet to a private operator. It will continue seeking reduced state involvement in Bitcoin, stronger crypto regulation and transparency over public holdings; no further Bitcoin accumulation is planned beyond documented donations. The IMF said holdings added after the previous review came from private donations, not public funds.
