Electrum patches Lightning flaw, but old Bitcoin backups break
Summary
Electrum 4.8.2 fixes backup defects that could prevent users from reclaiming funds after a peer closes an anchor Lightning channel. The issue affects backups only when wallets use non-deterministic Lightning keys and the channel is an anchor channel; affected backups may lack the key needed to sweep the funds. Wallet-file exports also previously discarded a randomly generated Lightning private key. Electrum warns affected users to create fresh backups, which requires retaining the original wallet data—the software update alone cannot restore key material already lost. The fix also prevents individual backups from requesting a remote force-close when they cannot claim the resulting output.
