Ethereum EIP-8304 Proposal Targets Trustless Log And Transaction Indexing
EIP-8304 is a draft Ethereum proposal for trustless indexing of historical logs and transactions. It aims to let wallets, apps, light clients, and explorers verify whether an event or transaction is part of canonical Ethereum data without relying on centralized indexers. The design would store root hashes of index tables in a system contract, enabling efficient proofs for log and transaction lookups. The proposal is framed as a simpler alternative to EIP-7745 and targets a key infrastructure problem: many Web3 applications still depend on trusted third-party data providers for historical queries. If adopted, it could improve verification, reliability, censorship resistance, and light-client design, while reducing reliance on centralized intermediaries. The idea is early-stage and currently only a draft.
