Ethereum Foundation Launches New Cluster Focused on Privacy
The Ethereum Foundation is launching a dedicated privacy cluster with 47 members, led by Igor Barinov, to expand its privacy initiatives. This cluster will collaborate internally and externally, including with the Institutional Privacy Task Force, to ensure compliance with global privacy regulations. The Foundation recently announced Kohaku, a privacy-focused browser wallet and SDK expected to debut at EFDevcon in November, enabling wallets to support private transactions with reduced reliance on third parties. Ethereum leadership, including Vitalik Buterin, has actively advocated for strong digital privacy rights, criticizing proposals like the EU Child Sexual Abuse Regulation, which mandates message scanning. Interest in privacy within the crypto sector is rising, with privacy coins like Zcash gaining traction. Experts and privacy advocates welcomed Ethereum’s renewed focus, citing the need for more robust privacy protections and referencing previous community concerns over tools like MetaMask potentially leaking user data.
