Ethereum Foundation Puts interop Front and Center of UX Push
Interoperability is identified as the top priority for Ethereum development in the near term, focusing on intent-based architecture and message-passing improvements. The Ethereum Foundation aims to enhance user experience by allowing users to express outcomes while the network manages transactions. Key metrics for optimization include time-to-inclusion, confirmation/finality, layer-2 settlement, and signatures per operation. The ecosystem's fragmentation due to multiple layer-2 protocols necessitates fast crosschain message-passing and standardization. Development efforts are divided into three streams: initialization, acceleration, and finalization. The initialization stream includes the open intents framework, Ethereum interoperability layer, and interoperability standards. The open intents framework facilitates intent-based development, while the interoperability layer enables trustless execution across layer-2 protocols. New standards aim to ensure a consistent crosschain user experience, including ERC-7828/7930 for interoperable addresses and ERC-7811 for asset consolidation. The acceleration stream focuses on increasing speed, and the finalization stream explores enhancements for zero-knowledge proof support and layer-1 finality times.
