Ethereum's ENS Identity System Set to Launch Own Layer-2 Blockchain
ENS Labs plans to launch Namechain, a layer-2 network for the Ethereum Name Service, expected to go live by the end of next year. Namechain will utilize zero-knowledge rollups to enhance transaction speed and reduce costs by processing transactions off the main Ethereum network while maintaining its security. The network will be built on an existing zero-knowledge chain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, with final decisions on the zkEVM pending. The ENS protocol will undergo a complete re-architecture in this transition, ensuring backward compatibility with the current system. This move aligns with trends among other crypto firms launching their own layer-2 projects. Namechain aims to improve scalability and cost-effectiveness, facilitating new applications within the ENS ecosystem.
