Former FTX CTO Gary Wang Won’t Have To Serve Prison Time, Judge Rules

Summary

Gary Wang, former FTX chief technology officer, avoided prison time for his role in the crypto exchange's fraud scheme due to his cooperation with U.S. prosecutors. Wang pled guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy charges in December 2022. His cooperation was instrumental in the trial against Sam Bankman-Fried, earning him significant credit from Judge Lewis A. Kaplan. Wang was one of two key witnesses, alongside Caroline Ellison, former Alameda Research CEO. Ellison received a two-year sentence, while Nishad Singh also avoided prison. Ryan Salame received the harshest sentence of seven and a half years for campaign finance fraud. Wang expressed remorse for his actions.
