French lawmakers back reporting rule for crypto wallets over $112K

Summary

France’s National Assembly Finance Committee adopted amendment I-CF821, which would require people to report self-custodied crypto holdings worth at least €100,000 as of Dec. 31. Failure to declare could incur fines of up to €10,000. Sponsors cited a gap between estimated crypto capital gains and holdings reported to tax authorities as justification. The proposal is not yet law: lawmakers must resubmit and approve it during debate on the 2027 budget after the committee rejected the budget’s revenue section. Other crypto tax amendments are also under consideration.
