Galaxy Research proposes new voting system to reduce Solana inflation

Summary

Galaxy Research proposed a new voting system for Solana's inflation rate called "Multiple Election Stake-Weight Aggregation" (MESA) to address previous consensus failures. MESA allows validators to vote on multiple deflation rates, using a weighted average for the outcome instead of a binary yes/no vote. This approach aims to reflect community preferences more accurately and facilitate agreement on inflation adjustments. The proposal maintains a terminal inflation rate of 1.5% while offering various deflation options. For example, if votes are split among different rates, the final deflation rate would be the aggregate of the votes. Currently, Solana's inflation rate is 4.6%, starting at 8% and decreasing annually until reaching 1.5%.
