Gen Z favors ETFs and trades less than older cohorts: Binance
Binance Research says Gen Z traders are shifting more equity activity into ETFs. In early August, ETFs made up 25% of Gen Z trading volume, up from 21.9% of their net equity inflows in July and 18.5% in June, while the share going to individual stocks declined. Across direct equities, tokenized stocks and TradFi perpetuals, Gen Z traded less frequently than older working-age groups. In direct equities, 22% of Gen Z accounts had never sold, and buy-only accounts commonly accumulated names like Broadcom, Tesla and the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF. Gen Z also showed limited use of leveraged and inverse ETFs. Binance noted its equities product is still new, so trends may be early. Separately, tokenized stocks continue to grow, with Ondo Finance the largest issuer and Binance’s bStocks briefly overtaking Kraken’s xStocks before slipping back.
