‘Hawk tuah girl’ Haliey Welch says FBI probed her ‘memecoin disaster’
Haliey Welch, known as the "Hawk Tuah girl," faced a brief FBI investigation following the failed launch of the Hawk Tuah (HAWK) memecoin, which lost 90% of its value shortly after its debut. The FBI visited her grandmother's house seeking to question Welch, who later met with agents and was cleared of any wrongdoing. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also investigated but closed the case without sanctions against her. Welch admitted to having limited knowledge about cryptocurrency and expressed regret for trusting the wrong people during the token's promotion. She received only a marketing fee and stated that funds from the coin were spent on legal and PR expenses. A group of HAWK buyers has sued the token's creators for allegedly promoting it as an unregistered security, but Welch was not named as a defendant.
