Hex Founder Richard Heart Detained in Istanbul on Interpol Red Notice: Report

Summary

Turkish police and intelligence officers detained Hex founder Richard Heart and his wife in Istanbul under an Interpol Red Notice issued at Finland’s request. The notice lists aggravated tax fraud; Finland has also sought him over an alleged assault. Authorities reportedly seized electronics, weapons, drones, cash and valuables. Heart launched Hex in 2018. The SEC accused him and related entities in 2023 of unregistered crypto offerings and misusing investor funds, but a U.S. judge dismissed the case in February 2025 for lack of jurisdiction, and the SEC did not refile. It remains unclear whether Finland has requested his extradition from Turkey.
