Hunter Biden launched LAPTOP, a politically themed memecoin on Base, but it fell 86.5% in its first 30 minutes, dropping from $199.50 to $26.88 and recording over $2.5 million in volume. Biden framed the token as reclaiming the “laptop narrative” tied to the 2019 Delaware repair-shop story that became a political flashpoint in 2020. He said he understood skepticism around memecoins, called Trump’s token a “grift,” and warned buyers not to expect him to boost LAPTOP’s value. The project is disclosed as a digital collectible with no utility, rights, yield, or profit-sharing. Supply is fixed at 1 billion tokens, with 30% allocated to founders including Biden, subject to a six-month lock and 24-month vesting. Airdrops include 2% for wallets that lost money on TRUMP and 8% for Substack subscribers, with another 10% reserved for future discretionary distribution.
