Israel Nabs Suspect Sought by US Over $190M Nomad Bridge Exploit: Report
Alexander Gurevich, a fugitive linked to the $190 million collapse of the Nomad cross-chain bridge, was arrested at Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport while attempting to fly to Moscow. He is accused of exploiting a vulnerability in Nomad’s smart contract, stealing $2.89 million and initiating a widespread digital theft that ultimately resulted in $88 million being drained from the platform. Gurevich, who recently changed his name and obtained a new passport, was apprehended following a U.S. extradition request. The exploit occurred in August 2022 when users could manipulate transactions to claim funds without verification. A significant portion of the stolen funds was funneled through coin mixer Tornado Cash. Gurevich later contacted Nomad’s CTO, returned $162,000, and sought a reward, but negotiations failed. The U.S. has charged him with multiple federal crimes, including money laundering and wire fraud. Nomad has since relaunched its bridge but continues to deal with the aftermath of the exploit.
