Jeffrey Epstein Was an Early Investor in Coinbase, Emails Reveal

Summary

In December 2014, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein invested $3 million in Coinbase at a $400 million valuation, facilitated by Tether co-founder Brock Pierce and Blockchain Capital. Newly released U.S. Justice Department emails show Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam was aware the investment was on Epstein’s behalf and sought to meet him in New York. Coinbase’s wire transfer information was sent to Epstein’s assistant after Blockchain Capital approved the deal. At the time of his investment, Epstein had already been a registered sex offender for more than six years. Epstein also invested in Blockstream, confirmed by its co-founder Adam Back. In 2018, Epstein sold half his Coinbase equity to Blockchain Capital for nearly $15 million, keeping the remainder. Today, Coinbase is valued around $51 billion. No parties involved provided comment.
