Jump's Kariya, Who Went From Intern to Crypto Leader, Is Leaving Trading Giant

Summary

Kanav Kariya, the head of cryptocurrencies at Jump Trading, has left the company. His departure comes amidst an investigation by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission into the company's crypto dealings. Kariya was appointed president in 2021, during which time the company faced several setbacks. The Wormhole cryptocurrency bridge, backed by Jump, was hacked in early 2022, resulting in losses of over $300 million. Additionally, the Terra/Luna project led by Do Kwon, from which Jump reportedly earned over $1 billion, collapsed, leading to criminal charges against Kwon. Despite leaving Jump Trading, Kariya plans to stay engaged with the portfolio companies he has been most involved with.
