LAPD recovers $2.7M worth of Bitcoin miners stolen in airport heist
The Los Angeles Police Department recovered $2.7 million worth of Bitcoin mining machines allegedly stolen by a crime ring during a heist at Los Angeles International Airport. On April 22, LAPD detectives arrested Oscar David Borrero-Manchola and Yonaiker Rafael Martinez-Ramos, identified as prominent members of a South American crime ring involved in the theft and sale of stolen goods. Searches in the San Fernando Valley yielded $4 million in stolen items, including the Bitcoin mining rigs, which were about to be shipped to Hong Kong. Additional stolen goods included over $1.2 million in tequila, clothing, and other products. Borrero-Manchola was cited for receiving stolen property and released, while Martinez-Ramos was held on a no-bail warrant. The investigation is ongoing, with potential for further arrests. Typical Bitcoin mining machines sell for $3,000 to over $5,000 each.
