Layer-2 Network Starknet Gets Ethereum Virtual Machine With Zero-Knowledge Proofs

StarkWare, the developer of Starknet, plans to introduce its own zero-knowledge rollup compatible with Ethereum infrastructure, known as a zkEVM. The zkEVM, named Kakarot, is currently in testing and will be accessible through the Starknet Stack. Starknet already has a zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) that uses the Cairo programming language. However, with Kakarot, developers can code with Solidity, a popular language for Ethereum smart contracts, making Starknet more accessible to project builders. Kakarot is in a "public whitelist" phase, meaning only select developers can access it before it goes live on the mainnet. StarkWare also recently announced a new cryptographic prover called "Stwo".
