Ledger wants customers to trust its new $849 device as criminals compromise existing wallets
Ledger introduced the $849 Ledger Atom, an Android-based device with separate hardware-secured crypto controls and a protective shield intended to detect physical tampering. Founders Edition deposits are open, with deliveries targeted for 2027. The launch comes as Ledger investigates a months-long scheme in which criminals allegedly modified returned genuine wallets to capture recovery phrases and steal crypto. Ledger asked resellers in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to suspend sales and tightened rules against reselling returns. It says inspected devices showed no signs of compromise and that its chips and software remain secure. Chainalysis traced more than 60 BTC, reportedly stolen from a suspected scam operator, through three Ledger addresses to a destination linked to the thefts.
