Lido Opens Higher-Balance Ethereum Validators With A Deliberately Small Start
Lido launched its permissionless 0x02 Community Staking Module on October 23, allowing operators to run Ethereum validators with effective balances of up to 2,048 ETH under EIP-7251. The initial rollout is limited: operators bond 32 ETH for the first key and 30 ETH for each additional key, while Lido supplies stake in stages through a seed deposit and a separate top-up queue. Capacity begins at 0.01% of Lido Core’s total value locked, with 32 top-up seats; expansion requires governance approval and adequate inflows. Larger validators may reduce key-management overhead, but make stake concentration and operational risks more consequential. The rollout’s practical reach will depend on activation, top-up timing and future capacity increases—not just the technical balance limit.
