Live updates: Binance $6.3B hack linked to North Korea’s TraderTraitor
Binance disclosed a security breach with an estimated impact of $6.3 billion. Its initial investigation points to a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop that may have enabled unauthorized withdrawals; the exchange said it found no evidence of a wallet private-key leak. Chainalysis, TRM Labs and other investigators attributed the attack with varying confidence to North Korean group TraderTraitor. Binance paused deposits and withdrawals while it revamped security, later saying withdrawals should resume within 48 hours. Binance reported about $3 billion frozen, with stablecoin issuers and blockchain networks also restricting linked assets. Aave temporarily froze new deposits and borrowing after the exploiter borrowed about $44.6 million in wrapped Ether. Bitcoin, BNB and other major tokens fell as the breach shook markets.
