MakerDAO founder proposes strict deflationary tokenomics amid rebranding process
Rune Christensen has proposed a strictly deflationary approach for Sky's governance token, with a community vote scheduled for Nov. 11 on whether to revert to the Maker brand. The proposed changes would eliminate regular token emissions and implement a burning mechanism to reduce total token supply, with exceptions only during significant financial shortfalls. New “Star Token Rewards,” including Spark (SPK), would incentivize governance participation. The vote will determine if the Maker brand remains or if the ecosystem migrates to the Sky identity, rebranding MKR tokens as Wrapped 24k Sky Tokens (SKY24K). If Maker prevails, Sky will become an auxiliary “Star.” The proposal envisions Spark and Sky as complementary, targeting supply and demand, with distinct roles in collateral allocation and USDS adoption. The final vote will occur from Nov. 11 to Nov. 14, aiming to enhance MakerDAO's structure and community engagement.
