Malaysia central bank launches DLT platform for tokenized bonds

Summary

Bank Negara Malaysia launched SSDS+, a distributed-ledger platform for issuing, recording and safeguarding tokenized debt securities, including sukuk. It connects securities records to RENTAS+, which settles payments in central bank money and is designed for around-the-clock operation. Though built for wholesale issuance, the platform can also support tokenized government and corporate retail bonds. BNM did not report any securities issued or transaction volumes. The launch follows the central bank’s three-year tokenization roadmap and earlier tests of ringgit stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits with major financial institutions.
