Germany’s main savings bank network launches Bitcoin trading
Summary
DekaBank launched crypto trading through the Sparkasse app on Oct. 19 for adult customers of participating banks. The service offers Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and POL, with a staged rollout and five Sparkassen listed initially. Trades cost €0.99 each plus an undisclosed DekaBank spread. Deka holds customers’ assets in omnibus custody; withdrawals are limited to approved service-provider addresses, ruling out direct transfers to personal self-custody wallets. Deka warns customers could lose their entire investment, which is not covered by statutory deposit protection. No figures have been released on customer uptake.
