Malta Charity Standoff Leaves $37M Binance Donation Stranded
A 2018 donation of 30,644 BNB (then worth $200,000) to a Maltese charity for terminal cancer patients, organized by Binance, now totals around $37 million due to price appreciation but remains unused. The funds have not been accessed because of an ongoing impasse between Binance and the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF). Binance insists on transferring donations directly to verified end beneficiaries for transparency, but MCCF refuses to share the necessary patient information, such as wallet addresses and medical bills. Legal tensions emerged in 2021 over alleged accounting failures, but were resolved after the accounts were found. Despite discussions and attempts to resolve the transfer requirements, the charity and Binance have not reached an agreement, leaving the donation dormant. Neither party has provided recent updates or comments.
