Merck and Hashgraph Group launch Hedera-based product passport for EU compliance
The Hashgraph Group and Merck integrated Merck’s M-Trust product authentication technology with TrackTrace, a Hedera-based digital product passport platform. M-Trust adds security markers to products and packaging that can be checked with a handheld scanner, while TrackTrace records the authentication data on-chain to create a linked digital passport. The combined system is meant to help companies meet new EU transparency and traceability rules, especially Digital Product Passports under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and traceability demands under the EU Deforestation Regulation. The companies say the approach links physical authentication with blockchain traceability and has already been shown in a supply-chain pilot. Likely applications include food, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods, and electronics.
