Metaplanet Buys More Bitcoin Amid Easing US-China Trade Tensions
Metaplanet Inc. acquired an additional 555 Bitcoin for $49.6 million, increasing its total holdings to 5,555 BTC, valued at over $482 million. This purchase aligns with the company's strategy to convert capital into Bitcoin amid global economic uncertainty. The acquisition coincided with China's announcement to resume trade talks with the U.S., with Vice Premier He Lifeng set to meet U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Switzerland. China emphasized that negotiations must respect mutual interests and warned against coercive tactics. Bitcoin's price rose to $96,500, reflecting safe-haven demand alongside gold. Metaplanet has raised over ¥35 billion through bonds and stock rights to fund its Bitcoin purchases, with significant growth in its Bitcoin-centric KPI. The firm plans to establish a U.S. subsidiary in Florida to raise up to $250 million for further Bitcoin accumulation.
