Metaplanet to hold at least 100,000 BTC by early 2027
Metaplanet has revised its Bitcoin acquisition target to 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026, up from a previous goal of 21,000 BTC. The company currently holds 8,888 BTC and plans to acquire at least 91,112 BTC in the next 18 months. This strategy responds to global economic changes and the diminishing safety of traditional assets like government bonds and gold. Metaplanet will issue stock acquisition rights for up to 555 million shares to fund these purchases, adding to the 210 million shares already issued. By the end of 2027, Metaplanet aims to hold over 210,000 BTC, joining the "1% Club" of entities owning at least 1% of Bitcoin's total supply. This move follows warnings from Standard Chartered Bank regarding risks associated with public companies adopting Bitcoin treasury strategies.
