MoonPay Inks 8-Figure Title Sponsorship Deal for Upcoming X Games League
X Games has partnered with crypto payments provider MoonPay in a multi-year, eight-figure sponsorship, resulting in the rebranding to the MoonPay X Games League. The new league-based format will draft 150 athletes to regionally-based clubs, offering base salaries of $30,000, paid travel, and health insurance stipends. This shift moves away from a prize money and sponsorship-driven model, providing greater financial stability and benefits for athletes in sports like skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, and freeskiing. The structure is inspired by Formula 1 and the NBA, focusing on team points and drafts. MoonPay gains exclusive branding rights in finance and banking, and the partnership aims to create new ownership and income opportunities for athletes while extending MoonPay's reach into X Games’ audience. The league officially launches with its first draft event in Los Angeles in March.
