OKX-ICE’s Cuomo calls issuer objections a ‘natural response’ to tokenized stock plans

Summary

Sixteen companies, including Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs, have objected to having tokenized versions of their shares traded on OKXICE, a planned venue from OKX and ICE. OKX-ICE co-chairman Andrew Cuomo said issuer opt-outs were expected under the SEC’s five-year Innovation Exemption, which allows limited experiments with blockchain-based trading while giving companies a say. Industry executives said issuers have legitimate concerns about pricing, investor protections, shareholder rights and the lack of infrastructure to coordinate tokenized and traditional markets. Objections to OKXICE do not necessarily mean companies oppose separate, issuer-sponsored tokenization offerings.
