Packs of Empty Waymos Are Weirding Out Atlanta Neighborhood
Residents on Battleview Drive in northwest Atlanta report dozens of empty Waymo robotaxis repeatedly circling their cul-de-sac, especially early in the morning, with some estimating up to 50 vehicles per hour. This pattern intensified over recent weeks after Waymo vehicles first appeared about two months ago. Attempts to deter the cars, including placing a children’s street sign, led to several Waymo cars becoming stuck while turning around. Waymo stated it uses a partner to manage vehicle routing in Atlanta and is working to stop this behavior, emphasizing its commitment to community feedback. These complaints occur amid increased scrutiny of autonomous vehicle operations and concerns over the use of remote human assistance, with lawmakers expressing safety and privacy worries related to remote operators, especially those overseas.
