Reddit Is Killing RSS Feeds and Public API Access to Fight AI Scrapers
Reddit is tightening access to its data by ending RSS feeds on November 13 and shutting off public API access in March 2027. New public API requests stop on October 31, and existing unregistered apps begin losing access on January 12, 2027. Reddit says the changes are meant to reduce scraping and automated abuse. Developers are being pushed to rebuild on Reddit’s Devvit platform, backed by a $1 million migration program with $1,000 grants for eligible apps and free hosting. Many bots and tools have already migrated or are close to it. For moderators, Reddit points to Discord Relay as an RSS replacement, but for general RSS use outside a moderated community, it says there is no replacement. Reddit is also restricting Old Reddit to logged-in users who have used it in the last six months, with moderators exempt. The broader strategy reflects Reddit’s effort to control data access more tightly as it monetizes content through licensing deals and fights scraping in court.
