Russia’s largest bank Sberbank secures approval to trade crypto
Summary
Russia’s central bank added Sberbank to its register of cryptocurrency exchange providers, complementing its earlier registration as a digital depository. The approvals allow the bank to develop trading and crypto custody-related services within Russia’s regulated market. Sberbank plans to launch its first products on Dec. 1 through its existing customer interfaces and is testing BTC, ETH, USDT and other tokens; the central bank will determine which coins are permitted. From July next year, crypto transactions must go through registered intermediaries, while domestic crypto payments remain prohibited.
