Safeheron introduces open-source Intel SGX TEE framework for Web3 security

Summary

Safeheron has launched an open-source Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) framework to enhance security and privacy in Web3 sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and payment services. This framework is built on the Intel SGX SDK using modern C++. The decision to open-source the framework addresses industry concerns about closed systems and aims to promote innovation. TEEs create secure enclaves within CPUs, protecting code and data from external and internal attacks. Safeheron's TEE framework enables clients to utilize cloud services that support Intel SGX servers. The company serves over 100 clients, including MetaMask and Amber Group, with a cumulative transfer volume exceeding $100 billion. Safeheron raised $7 million in pre-Series A funding in August 2022 for research and development. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed integrating TEEs into Ethereum to improve user privacy and protect wallet keys. TEEs may also enhance the security of Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge (SNARKs) against internal vulnerabilities.
