SBF asks Supreme Court to overturn conviction, $11B forfeiture: Report
Sam Bankman-Fried has asked the US Supreme Court to overturn his 2023 fraud conviction, seek a new trial, and reverse an $11 billion forfeiture order. His lawyers argue the trial judge wrongly excluded evidence that his investments were legitimate and could have covered FTX customer losses, and that the forfeiture amount amounts to an excessive fine under the Eighth Amendment. A federal appeals panel upheld his conviction and 25-year sentence in June. He was sentenced in March 2024 after being found guilty on seven fraud and conspiracy counts. Prosecutors said he diverted billions in FTX customer funds to repay Alameda Research debts, fund investments, political donations, and personal spending. He has also sought a pardon from President Trump.
