Scammers Exploit Telegram Ads To Mimic Monad Claim Portal
Monad’s official Telegram channel was targeted by scammers placing deceptive ads mimicking the project’s upcoming airdrop claim portal. Co-founder Keone Hon warned users on X to avoid interacting with these ads and emphasized that the official claim portal will be open for three weeks, so there is no need to rush. This phishing attempt comes ahead of Monad’s highly anticipated airdrop, scheduled for 1:00 pm UTC Tuesday. The MON token, not yet officially launched, is already trading on Hyperliquid’s perpetual futures market at about $0.07, giving it an implied fully diluted valuation of approximately $7 billion. Monad is an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain claiming speeds up to 10,000 TPS and boasts to have solved the blockchain trilemma of scalability, security, and decentralization. Although Telegram policies prohibit deceptive and phishing ads, this incident exposes weaknesses in its ad vetting processes and highlights the ongoing risks of phishing in the crypto space.
