Senators Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Opposing SBF Pardon
Sens. Rubén Gallego and Cynthia Lummis introduced a bipartisan resolution urging that Sam Bankman-Fried receive no pardon, commutation, or other federal clemency. They said the imprisoned FTX founder showed no remorse and is seeking relief he has not earned. The move follows Bankman-Fried’s formal request for a presidential pardon after completion of his sentence, which is still pending. His conviction and 25-year sentence were recently upheld on appeal, and he is not eligible for release until 2044. The resolution cites the collapse of FTX, the unanimous guilty verdict on seven fraud and conspiracy counts, and more than $8 billion in losses to FTX customers. It rejects his claims of political persecution and backs the jury’s verdict. The effort also reflects concern that clemency could become possible despite President Trump saying he has no plans to pardon him.
