Smell Fraud? This Telegram App Was Built to Reward Whistleblowers
AlphaTON CEO Brittany Kaiser, known for exposing Cambridge Analytica's misuse of data, has launched Vera Report, a Telegram-based app enabling anonymous whistleblowing. Developed with the Midnight Foundation and built for privacy, Vera Report allows users to submit information securely to government agencies and law firms, using confidential computing, zero-knowledge proofs, and metadata scrubbing to protect identities. Data submitted cannot be accessed without the whistleblower’s consent. The platform is open-source, aiming to tailor its features to users’ and agencies’ needs. The initiative responds to increased calls for whistleblowers to report government fraud, with such tips responsible for uncovering 43% of occupational fraud according to a 2024 study. Vera also supports payout mechanisms if whistleblowers are eligible for rewards, such as those under the False Claims Act, where informants can receive 15–30% of lawsuit recoveries. AlphaTON, previously known as Portage Biotech, rebranded and established a Toncoin treasury to align with The Open Network, originally designed by Telegram’s founders. Kaiser sees Vera as a vital, privacy-centric tool for safe and effective reporting.
