South Korea locks out crypto users as 27 exchange sites go dark
South Korea has ordered domestic access to 27 crypto websites blocked, including KuCoin and MEXC, for operating without required registration. The Financial Intelligence Unit says foreign platforms serving Korean users must meet the same rules as local firms, including information-security certification. Authorities warned that the blocks could impede existing customers’ access to accounts and withdrawals. The FIU plans to publish withdrawal guidance through the DAXA industry group, but has not confirmed platform-specific procedures or an implementation timetable. It urged users to withdraw assets from unregistered services and warned them not to share private keys, credentials or identification documents. Officials also plan to monitor replacement domains and pursue further blocks.
