Starknet, Layer-2 Chain on Ethereum, to Open Staking By End of Year

Summary

Starknet, a Layer-2 network, plans to introduce staking on its ecosystem by the end of 2024, according to StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson. A Starknet Improvement Proposal has been submitted, suggesting that users can opt to become stakers, with rewards based on the amount of STRK tokens staked. Stakers will need to lock their tokens for 21 days before withdrawal. If approved, a testnet for staking will be launched, with mainnet staking expected in the last quarter of 2024. Staking will be implemented in several stages, with the first requiring stakers to connect to Starknet and interact with staking contracts. Later stages will involve providing attestations to block content and performing sequencing and proving activities to secure the network.
