Story Protocol rebrands to DATA Foundation in AI pivot
Story Protocol is rebranding as the DATA Foundation and shifting its focus from IP licensing on a layer-1 blockchain to AI training infrastructure. The new mission centers on solving an AI data bottleneck by providing verified, licensed, and provenance-tracked data that labs can use at scale. The company is launching Trace, an on-chain registry for data provenance and licensing, and integrating Kled, a dataset provider that pays contributors to collect real-world data. Story president Andrea Muttoni will become CEO of DATA, while Kled founder Avi Patel will join as chief data officer and adviser. Existing IP records on Story will remain, but the roadmap will now prioritize an end-to-end network for sourcing, verifying, licensing, and paying for AI training data.
