Teen ‘Scattered Spider’ suspect extradited to US over $8M crypto ransom
Peter Stokes, a 19-year-old dual US-Estonian national suspected of ties to Scattered Spider, was extradited from Finland to the US and appeared in Chicago federal court. He was arrested in April on an Interpol Red Notice. A federal complaint says he and others hacked a luxury jewelry retailer in May 2025 by phishing its help desk, taking over employee accounts, including IT admin accounts, then stealing data and demanding an $8 million crypto ransom. The company blocked the intrusion and did not pay, though it later reported about $2 million in disruption losses. Prosecutors also allege Stokes took part in numerous other intrusions, possessed exfiltrated records from multiple victims, and used online aliases “Bouquet” and “Jordan.” He faces six counts including hacking, cyber extortion, fraud, and conspiracy.
