Telegram malware scams spike 2,000% as crypto investors face new threat
Scam Sniffer reported a significant rise in malware scams targeting crypto investors on Telegram, with attacks increasing by 2,000% from November 2024 to January 2025. While traditional phishing remains a major threat, causing losses of nearly half a billion dollars in 2024, its growth has plateaued. Attackers have shifted tactics from impersonating crypto figures to infiltrating legitimate Telegram communities, luring victims into fraudulent groups with trusted invites. These scams utilize fake bots, counterfeit trading platforms, and bogus airdrops, leading victims to activate malicious code that compromises their devices and exposes sensitive information. Scam Sniffer advised users to adopt strict security measures, avoid risky actions, and rely on secure wallet solutions, noting that legitimate services will not request command executions or unverified software installations.
