Texas electric grid moratorium won’t have big impact on BTC miners: Bernstein
Bitcoin miners in Texas are unlikely to be hurt by Governor Greg Abbott’s moratorium on approving data-center projects tied to ERCOT, according to Bernstein. Abbott ordered a broad audit of data centers seeking grid connection, reflecting backlash to rapid build-out. Bernstein said most Texas bitcoin miners already operate under contracts for approved power capacity, so they should not be directly affected. The bigger impact is likely a tighter pipeline for speculative data-center projects, making existing approved sites more valuable. Miners with the strongest exposure to future permitting pushback may be Cipher, Core Scientific, and CleanSpark. By contrast, IREN and Riot Platforms were highlighted as better positioned because their Texas operations are already fully ERCOT-approved.
