UK regulators to develop tokenization roadmap after industry feedback
The UK Financial Conduct Authority has gathered industry feedback on plans for tokenized financial markets and will use it, alongside the Bank of England, to produce a joint roadmap later this year. The FCA received 123 responses from industry groups, financial firms, and legal academics. Most respondents said the biggest near-term opportunity for tokenization is in post-trade processes, especially the transfer of collateral between counterparties. The FCA also opened a separate consultation on tokenized gold, reflecting broader interest in using distributed ledger technology across wholesale markets. The roadmap is expected to set target dates for UK work on wholesale tokenization. This effort comes as European firms also push to expand tokenized securities, with market participants urging EU lawmakers to loosen proposed limits on assets held in distributed ledger infrastructure.
