U.S. Blocks China-Tied Crypto Miners as 'National Security Risk' Near Nuke Base
President Joe Biden ordered a halt to operations at a cryptocurrency mining facility near Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, citing national security concerns. The facility, MineOne, is majority owned by Chinese nationals and is operated by a company based in the British Virgin Islands. The company was accused of not filing with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) when it acquired the land in 2022. The order also authorized the U.S. attorney general to enforce it, citing the presence of foreign-sourced specialized equipment used for cryptocurrency mining as a significant national security concern. The Department of the Treasury emphasized the importance of CFIUS in ensuring foreign investments do not undermine national security. MineOne has not yet responded to requests for comment.
