U.S. SEC's steadiest crypto advocate, Hester Peirce, to depart next week
Summary
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce will leave the agency on Oct. 2 to become an associate professor at Regent University School of Law. Known as “Crypto Mom,” she spent years advocating clearer crypto rules and led the SEC’s Crypto Task Force. Her work included guidance on mining, staking, memecoins and token classifications, as well as proposals for crypto-asset offerings and a limited five-year exemption for tokenized securities. Her departure leaves the SEC with two commissioners, who can still form a quorum. The agency also issued staff FAQs addressing token classifications, project teams’ managerial efforts, staking receipt tokens and secondary-market promotion.
