US Senate pushes CLARITY Act vote to September: Report
Senate Republicans are expected to leave for the August recess without holding a vote on crypto market structure legislation, pushing consideration of the CLARITY Act to September. Senate Majority Leader John Thune reportedly confirmed the delay, saying the chamber is “punting” the vote until senators return. Politico reported that Democrats are not currently backing the bill, though negotiations are still ongoing and the schedule could change if a bipartisan deal emerges. Thune may still file cloture before recess, which would set up the bill for a vote after lawmakers return in mid-September, but would not itself be a vote on passage. Democrats have also declined to agree to a time agreement that would speed remaining pre-recess business, and Republican leaders would need unanimous consent to finish it all before recess.
