White hats outrun Coldcard hackers in 52-Bitcoin evacuation

White hats transferred 52.37 Bitcoin to a Wyoming-based Crypto Recovery Trust to help return funds to victims of a Coldcard wallet vulnerability. Alex Thorn of Galaxy Digital said about 40% of the Bitcoin from the second wave was swept to protect users’ funds. He also noted that 3.0134 BTC came from addresses Galaxy had not previously tracked, but likely also originated from affected wallets. Security researcher Nick Bax said he helped rescue about 50 BTC in late July because the funds were about to be stolen due to the Coldcard entropy flaw. Thorn cited a total of 1,830 BTC across 9,162 addresses tied to the vulnerability, and potential victims can check the trust’s website to see whether their funds are controlled there.
